Do you know what it’s like trying to spread cold butter on toast?
You put the toast down.
You take the butter out of the refrigerator.
It’s basically a building material.
You try to spread it.
The toast immediately starts tearing apart.
You try a little harder.
Now you’ve removed half the surface of the toast.
You try to soften the butter with the knife.
Nothing.
You scrape off a tiny piece.
You put it on the toast.
You wait.
You scrape another piece.
Eventually, you’ve created something that looks less like buttered toast and more like a construction project.
And apparently, somewhere out there, another person is casually opening a little butter dish, picking up perfectly soft butter, and spreading it across their toast like they have figured out the secret to life.
